About Dr. Rangin P. Tripathy
Rangin works in the area of constitutional governance, civil liberties, criminal law and gender rights. His current research focuses on the functioning of institutions within constitutional democracies and the way they affect realization of democratic rights.
His doctoral thesis was the first of its kind in India focusing on the performance evaluation of judges in Indian higher judiciary. He completed his Fulbright Post-Doctoral Research Scholarship from Harvard Law School where researched on the competing methods of appointing judges in democracies.
He has completed two research projects funded by the Department of Justice, Government of India in the area of judicial reforms. One was on performance appraisal schemes in Indian lower judiciary and the other one was on functioning of Lok Adalats as an alternative to traditional litigation. At present, I am heading two internationally funded research projects in the area of tobacco control and domestic violence.
